Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO) announced that the number of international visitors to Japan was considerably down 93% year on year to 193,700 in March 2020, affected by travel restrictions imposed by many countries and regions and also immigration restrictions by Japan to prevent the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. 

Visitors of all of 20 major markets resulted in large reductions. The biggest reduction rate was found in China as visitors were down 98.5% to just 10,400. Including South Korea (-97.1%), Taiwan (-98.1%) and Hong Kong (94.2%), visitors from East Asia  decreased by 97.6% to 44,700. 

As the Japanese government has decided to reject immigrations from 73 countries and regions, almost one-third of the world, since April 1 2020, the monthly result in April is expected to be worse than March.
