More than 70,000 Japanese travelers departed overseas in January 2022, the most since the pandemic happened

Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO) announced that the number of Japanese overseas travelers were 75,000 in January 2022, marking the most Japanese departures a month since the pandemic happened. The result was about 50% more than a year ago (27,000), though it was still 94.8% fewer departures than two years ago (1,452,157).

According to OAG, international flights departing from six major airports in Japan (Narita, Haneda, Kansai, Nagoya, Fukuoka and Sapporo) were 3,091 (down 4.8% over a year ago) in January 2022, providing 767,482 seats in total (up 3.9% over a year ago).
