The inbound travel market of Japan lost almost 100% of international visitors in April 2020 obviously because of travel restrictions under the COVID-19 pandemic.
Visitors from Southeast Asia to Japan considerably declined in March 2020 due to COVID-19. 90% or higher decreases were seen in Thailand and Singapore.
The Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO)’s statistics for 2019 finds that Japan received 1,319,000 from Thailand (+16.5% year on year), 492,300 visitors from Singapore (+12.6%), 501,700 from Malaysia (+7.1%) and 412,800 from Indonesia (+4.0%). All of the yearly results were record-high.
