Agoda.com, a major Asian hotel reservation site, has released result of a survey on accommodation reservations. The survey targeted at their 65 thousand users asked how online reviews (word of mouth) affect on making accommodation reservations. The result revealed that users have different perspectives depending on the purposes of travels.
On the question “how important are the hotel reviews when making reservations,” 66% of the family travelers with small children and 63% of the couples answered “important.” On the other hand, only 57% of the business travelers and 60% of the solo travelers answered “important,” which is almost 10% less than the first group. In addition, 77% of the non-business travelers (leisure oriented travelers) expressed that they would not make reservations at hotels which do not appear on online reviews.
On the contrary, many of the users who made accommodation reservations for business trips are “not concerned about hotel reviews.” Of the business oriented travelers, 59% from Japan, 53% from Australia, 52% from Hong Kong, 57% from France, 46% from the UK and 45% from Singapore answered so. However, 80% of the business travelers from Philippines replied that “hotel reviews are quite important.”
The result of the survey is complied for the countries with replies from more than 100 users.
