HIS survey shows Cuba is much more preferred as a New Year holiday destination than before

The HIS's travel booking trend for the New Year holiday period (December 23 2016 to January 3 2017) finds that the most popular destination is Hawaii for both FIT and package tour for five years in a row. It is noteworthy that short-haul destinations, such as Seoul, Taipei or Guam, are more preferred because of worse holiday sequences in this period than a year ago.

The table below shows top 10 popular overseas destinations:

The highest year-on-year growth rate was found in Habana (+712%), followed by Cairo (+338%) and Langkawi of Malaysia (+231%). Cuba draws attentions from Japanese travelers due to the diplomatic normalization with U.S., and the first scheduled charter flights in the last three years for Cairo raises popularity of Egypt.

The most popular domestic destination was Okinawa, followed by Sapporo and Fukuoka. The highest year-on-year growth rate was found in Miyako (+254%), followed by Takamatsu (+192%), Kagoshima (+173%), Hiroshima (+139%) and Nagasaki (+127%). The popularity of Miyako is boosted by new ANA’s Haneda-Miyako service and an increase in services from Kansai.
