Japanese outbound travel market was still inactive with just 690,000 travelers in March 2023

Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO) announced that the number of Japanese overseas travelers were 694,300 in March 2023, approximately 150,000 more travelers than the previous month, but still 64% down compared to March 2019 (1,929,915 travelers).

According to OAG, international flights departing from six major airports in Japan (Narita, Haneda, Kansai, Nagoya, Fukuoka and Sapporo) were up 296.3% year on year to 12,325, providing 2,943,810 seats in total (up 283.1% year on year). International flights increased from local airports as well, such as 393 flights from Naha, 36 flights from Takamatsu or 32 flights from Sendai.
