Yahoo! has the most Japanese users on PC, and No.1 app is LINE in - the Nielsen’s internet service user ranking 2015

The internet service user ranking 2015, released by the consumer trend analysis service provider Nielsen, finds that Yahoo! had the most Japanese users of 38.92 million on PC (-5%), followed by Google with 24.91 million users (-11%) and FC2 with 19.86 million users (-12%).

No.1 internet service on smart phone was Google with 47.35 million Japanese users (+19%), followed by Yahoo! with 44,46 million users (+19%) and communication app LINE with 38.08 million users (+25%). Users of internet services on smart phones increased by double-digit year on year in 2015 following the last year.

No.1 smart phone app was LINE with 36.44 million users (+23%) for three years in a row. Users of mercari, a mobile flea market, tripled, and those of Instagram also doubled in 2015.

The following table shows top 10 internet services on PC: Rakuten rose its rank from 6th to 4th, and Amazon from 7th to 5th.

The following table shows top 10 apps on smart phone. Users of Google Play, YouTube, Google Maps and Google Search each had 20 million or more users. One of the features in 2015 was that Apple Music was placed in top 10.

Smart phone app with the highest growth rate was mercari with 4.91 million users (+221%), followed by Instagram with 6.11 million users (+117%) and Facebook Messenger with 10.1 million users (+107%).
