The Skyscanner survey on price changes of international air tickets for nine popular overseas destinations (China, Hong Kong, Philippine, Thailand, Taiwan, Great Britain, U.S., France and Singapore) departing from Japan finds that price trend and savings vary with destinations.
In terms of booking time, the highest price is found in 0 week before departure, about 20% higher than the annual average. It is not until 3 weeks before that the price is lower than the annual average, and the lowest price is found in 20 weeks before, 6.2% lower than the annual average.
In terms of departure time, the highest price is found in August (11.4% higher than the average), followed by July (6.8% higher) and December (5.0% higher). On a week basis, the highest price is found in the 29th week from July 16 to 22 (21.9% higher), followed by the 52nd week (21.4% higher). The lowest price is found in November (13.1% lower than the average), followed by October (7.6% lower). On a week basis, it is found in the 44th week in early November and the 48th week in early December (14.3% lower). The prices every week during the period hit a bottom at 10 to 14% lower than the average.
By destination, the price of a flight for Taiwan in July rises higher than any other destinations (+28%), followed by a flight for Taiwan in August (+22.9%). The price of a flight for Taiwan in October falls larger than any other destinations (-19.5%), followed by a flight for France in January (-19.4%).
In terms of prices in busy seasons, prices of flights for all of nine destinations rise in a New Year holiday period, but price of a flight for China rises just by 2.4% over the average. In the Golden Week period from late April to early May, prices of flights for Singapore, Philippine and Thailand rise by more than 10% in the 17th week, however the price of a flight for U.S. is down 1.9%. In the Bon holiday period in the middle of August, prices of flights for all of nine destinations are higher than the average, however the rising rates are relatively low for Taiwan, Thailand and Singapore.
