Japan Tourism Agency reported that travel transactions of 50 major travel agents totaled 432.9 billion JPY (-2.2%) in June 2016, resulting in year-on-year reductions for two months in a row. The monthly total consisted of 161.3 billion JPY for outbound travel (-5.1%), 15.3 billion JPY for inbound travel (+26.7%) and 256.4 billion JPY for travel in Japan (-1.7%).
For outbound travel, all of top five travel agents (15 JTB Group companies, five H.I.S. Group companies, three Hankyu Travel Group companies, eight KNT-CT Group companies and NTA) resulted in transactions of 10 billion JPY or more for the first time since March 2016, however only H.I.S. succeeded in year-on-year growth.
For inbound travel by international visitors, out of top five travel agents (15 JTB Group companies, five H.I.S. Group companies, eight KNT-CT Group companies, Rakuten and NTA), KNT-CT moved up from 4th in May to 3rd in June 2016 with the year-on-year growth of 54.8%, and Rakuten came up to 5th the year-on-year growth of 56.6%. On contrary, Tobu-Top Tours relatively dropped from 5th in May to 6th in June 2016.
For travel in Japan, only Rakuten succeeded in year-on-year growth out of the top five travel agents (15 JTB Group companies, Rakuten, eight KNT-CT Group companies, NTA and ANA Sales).
Transactions of package tour brand products totaled 112.7 billion JPY in June 2016 (-4.2%) with 2,584,786 customers in total (-5.6%). The total comprised 44.9 billion JPY (-4.6%) with 221,769 customers (+4.3%) for outbound travel, 568 million JPY (+7.5%) with 36,934 customers (+16.9%) for inbound travel and 67.3 billion JPY (-4.0%) with 2,326,083 customers (-6.7%) for travel in Japan.
