Japan Tourism Agency announced that a total of guest nights increased by 2.9% year on year to 55.83 million in August 2015 (the second preliminary figures). Out of the total, foreigners’ guest nights were up 59.5% to 6.03 million, which accounted for 10.8% of the total.
A total of guest nights in September 205 (the first preliminary figures) increased by 9.4% to 43.38 million, out of which foreigners’ guest nights were up 44.5% to 4.91 million. Japanese guest nights were also up 6.1% to 38.47 million, boosted by the Silver Week holiday period in late September.

Among international markets, the most guest nights were found in China (a share of 32.6%), followed by Taiwan (16.7%) and Korea (12.5%) in August 2015. Including Hong Kong and U.S.A., guest nights of travelers from the top five markets accounted for 75.5%.
The highest year-over-year growth rate was also found in China (+116.5%), followed by Korea (+67.6%), Hong Kong (+66.5%) and Philippine (+47.3%).

The room occupancy rate was 70.2% in August 2015, which was record-high since the survey began in 2010. By category, the high rates were found in city-type hotels (85.2%) and budget-type hotels (80.7%).
In September 2015, the room occupancy rate was 63.2%. The result was lower than that in August, but record-high for September.
