HIS saw a 25% increase in overseas travel bookings during New Year’s holiday period, and the most-booked destination is Seoul

HIS revealed that overseas travel bookings during the New Year’s holiday period (December 27 2024 to January 5 2025) as of November 5 were up 25.3% year on year. The most-booked destination was Seoul, followed by Taipei, Honolulu, Bangkok and Singapore.

Bookings for all of the top 10 destinations were more than a year ago, and high growths were found in Bangkok (up 27.5%), Singapore (up 29.3%), Cebu (up 36.8%) and Da Nang (up 74.8%).

The increase in bookings for Da Nang result from an increase in seat capacity on scheduled flights from Narita and charter flights from local airports.

Also, higher growths were seen in long-haul destinations, such as North America (up 42.7%), Europe (up 46.5%) or Middle East (up 82.6%), because of nine consecutive holidays max.

The average cost was estimated at 241,500 yen per traveler, 21% higher than a year go mainly because of higher airfares as a whole.

The average travel days were shortened from 6.3 days a year ago to 6.1 days, and five-days trip accounted for 20.7% of the total, reducing 4.2 points compared to pre-pandemic.

The busiest departure day will be December 28 2024, and the busiest arrival day January 3 2025.
