International arrivals in Japan already exceeded 20 million, adding 2.4 million in November 2023

Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO) announced that the number of international visitors in Japan in November 2023 reached 2,440,800, close to 2,441,274 in November 2019. The total in the first 11 months of 2023 was down 16.1% to 22.3 million compared to the same period of 2019.

The largest source market continued to be South Korea with 649,900 visitors (up 117% over 2019), followed by Taiwan with 403,501 visitors (up 2.9%), China with 250,800 (down 65.6%), Hong Kong with 200,400 visitors (up 0.3%) and U.S. with 184,800 visitors (up 24%). Visitors from 13 of 23 major source markets reached record-high for November.

According to OAG, international flights arriving in six major airports in Japan (Narita, Haneda, Kansai, Nagoya, Fukuoka and Sapporo) recovered to a 16.6% decrease (17,336 flights), and available seats to a 15.6% reduction (4.09 million seats) compared toNovember 2019. 

Haneda handled 20.1% more flights (4,206) and 13.2% more available seats (1,029,066) than November 2019.
