JAL to launch a new AI service for family with baby traveling in Hawaii

JAL has begun providing family travelers with babies in Hawaii with ‘JAL Virtual Assistant Service Makana-chan,’ the automation reply service using the IBM’s AI Watson since December 5 2016. The 24-hours service on PC or smart phone provides services for babies in an airport or on board and in useful information in Hawaii, which used to be offered through the call center or on the JAL website.

The IBM Watson has learned a large volume of information including the travel-related information accumulated by the JAL call center and expected questions collected by more than 10,000 JAL and IBM staff. The service is expected to upgrade to a chat dialogue service in the future.

The service will be provided by January 10 2017.
