Japanese overseas travelers were down 99.6% to 5.500 only in May 2020

Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO) announced that the number of Japanese overseas travelers was down 99.6% year on year to 5,500 only in May 2020, slightly increasing from 3,915 travelers in April 2020. 

The Japanese government maintained the regular Travel Advice and Warning Level 2 (Avoid non-essential travel) all over the world for Japanese citizens and the Travel Advice & Warning on Infection Diseases Level 3 (Travel suspension recommendation) to 91 countries and regions adding 18 countries in Latin America and Africa on June 5. 

According to OAG, an aviation date provider, international flight departures from six major airports in Japan were down 85.9% to 3,128 in May, and available seats were also down 87.0% to 659,012.
