Kyoto City promotes ‘hands free tourism’ to avoid over-tourism, operating dedicated bus to travelers carrying large suitcases

Kyoto City will operate dedicated bus, called ‘Hands Free Bus,’ to travelers carrying large suitcases from Kyoto Station to major hotels in this autumn. As one of the efforts to avoid over-tourism, the city us promoting hands-free tourism.’ 

Eight buses a day will be available between October 1 and December 27 this year at 500 yen an adult and 250 yen a child for one way trip, supposing that about 45 passengers carry in 43 50 L suitcases a bus. 

Pre-booking and pre-payment on the Hands Free Bus website is required two hours before departures from Kyoto Station, but if seats are available, you can use the bus without pre-booking. 

The Hands Free Bus ticket include discount coupons for Nijo-jo Castle, the Museum of Kyoto or Kyoto Railway Museum.
