Yano Research, the marker solution provider, announced that market scale of the indoor positioning system in Japan amounted 10.8 billion JPY on a sales basis in FY2015, when they released results of the survey on indoor positioning system market in Japan. The total was broken down into 9.2 billion JPY on B to B and 1.6 billion JPY on B to C.
The indoor positioning system is a service or a solution using indoor positioning technology and indoor mapping information, provided by factories, warehouses, hospitals, offices and so forth on B to B mainly for management of human resources and goods and tourism providers, pubic facilities, stations and so forth on B to C for point-added check-in services or navigation services to attract customers.
Both the market scale and the technology are ahead in the B to B market, and in the B to C market, the system is accepted for check-in or navigation to some extent. Development of O to O-purpose app is not so progressing.
The indoor positioning system is expected to grow in a variety of fields, such as marketing supports by people-flow analysis and page view analysis, behavior analysis for effective business or nursing service for kids or elders. Also, developments of services or apps for IoT or wearable devices are expected in the B to B market.
As a result of the survey, Yano has forecasted that market scale of the indoor positioning system may triple to 36.5 billion JPY in Japan by FY2020, led by the B to B market in which the market scale may grow to 20 billion JPY. Also, the B to C market is expected to grow to 16.5 billion JPY, almost ten times more than today.
Challenges for market expansion are development of solutions to meet consumers’ satisfaction, development of new monetizing scheme and de facto standard of the indoor positioning system, according to Yano.
