Sales of 48 major Japanese travel companies reduced by 2.3% in November 2019

Japan Tourism Agency (JTA) announced that the sales of the 48 major Japanese travel agents amounted to 423.8 billion JPY in November 2019, 2.3% less than a year earlier. The monthly total consisted of 140.3 billion JPY for the outbound travel business (-4.1%), 22.4 billion JPY for the inbound travel business (+23.5%) and 261 billion JPY for the domestic travel business (-3.0%).

The outbound travel market was affected by the political turmoil in Hong Kong particularly, and the domestic travel market by aftermaths of the 19th Typhoon. The inbound travel market was boosted by Rigby World Cup 2019, following the previous month.

The sales of package tour brand products totaled 114.7 billion JPY (-4.9%) with 2,994,565 customers (-9.2%) in November 2019. The breakdown was 29.8 billion JPY (-4.9%) with 137,859 customers (-8.8%) for the outbound travel business, 84.6 million JPY (-5.1%) with 2,818,893 customers (-9.3%) for the domestic travel business and 396 million JPY (-29.2%) with 37,813 customers (-2.7%) for the inbound travel business.
