Skyscanner Travel Trends Report 2025 finds that Japanese travelers are more interested in reset travel, immersive art and sports

Skyscanner Travel Trends Report 2025, based on search big data, defines ‘Sport Mode,’ ‘Astro Adventurers,’ ‘Reset Jetters,’ ‘Art-Venture,’ ‘Cowboy Core,’ ‘Horti-Culture’ and ‘Gami-vacation’ as seven travel trends in 2025.

Among those, Skyscanner provided insights of Japanese traveler trends about Art-Venture, Sport Mode and Reset Jetters which seem to be strong affinities for Japanese travelers.

For Art-venture, ‘immersive art’ is getting popular in Japan, and 31% of 25 to 34 years old travelers answered that they plan to experience immersive art next year. Three major reasons were ‘because it feels playful (31%),’ ‘because it gives us sharing experience (27%)’ and ‘because it gives us physical experience (17%).’ 

Based on the results, Skyscanner said that travelers want to stimulate their creativities through art and seek connections with others. 

For Sport Mode, Skyscanner’s search data discovered that searches of flights from Japan to Paris during Paris Olympics increased by 47%. 37% of Japanese travelers answered that they have plans to travel to see sports events in 2025. Also, 45% of 25 to 34 years old travelers said that they want to discover new spots in running or cycling. 

For Reset Jetters, 40% answered that they are more aware of health and happiness than before, and 52% said that a vacation is helpful to grow their own resiliences and cope with stresses in daily life.  The trend is more seen in younger generation, as 41% of 18 to 24 years old travelers answered that they want healthy activities during a vacation in contrast to 33% among 45 to 54 years old travelers. 

Trending destinations in 2025

The top destination with the biggest drop in airfares from Japan in the past year was Krabi, Thailand with a 37% reduction, followed by Male, Maldives with a 36% reduction, Langkawi, Malaysia with a 34% reduction, Madrid, Spain with a 34% reduction and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia with a 33% reduction.

The top destination with the biggest increase in searches is Siem Reap, Cambodia with a 300% increase, followed by Miri, Malaysia with a 237% increase, Nha Trang, Vietnam with a 152% increase, Rovaniemi, Finland with a 134% increase and San Sebastián, Spain with a 95% Increase.
