Year-on-year comparison of Japanese travelers to Australia, Canada and New Zealand in the last decade by 2018

Based on official statistical data for 2018, the number of Japanese travelers increased by 7.9% for Australia (reaching 469,200), but decreased by 16.9% for Canada (reaching 252,800) and by 2.2% for New Zealand (reaching 99,800) on a year-on-year basis. Japanese travelers to Australia grew for five years in a row.

The graph below shows yearly changes in the last decade in the number of Japanese travelers for the three destinations:

In December 2018 only, Japanese travelers increased by 16.3% for Australia (reaching 49,900), but decreased by 11.0% for Canada (reaching 14,900) and by 0.7% for New Zealand (reaching 12,900) on a year-on-year basis. The growth rate in Australia was the highest in 2018, following October 2018.
