40% of Japanese people are willing to travel overseas within a year, but they are concerned about exchange rate and security

The Sony Bank survey on sentiment to overseas travel, which was conducted between October 10 and 22 2023, finds that the ratio of respondents who plan to travel overseas within a year was 40%, higher than 28% in the previous survey a year ago. Asked if you want to travel overseas more than before, 42% said ‘Yes.’

The top concern was ‘exchange rate’ at 72%, but the ratio was 3 lower points than the previous survey. The second was ‘security’ at 57%, higher than 46% previously. The ratio of concerns about ‘COVOD-19’ largely reduced from 56% a year ago to 25%.

Amid weak Yen, the ratio of people who are saving more money than usual for the future overseas travel increased from 15% previously to 18%.
