Airbnb Japan lists an unique local experience staying in a traditional architecture house in the World Heritage village of Toyama Prefecture

Airbnb Japan has listed a traditional architecture house called ‘Gassho Zukuri’ in the World Heritage village Gokayama in Toyama Prefecture to provide an unique local experience. This is one of the Airbnb Japan efforts to increase a filter of ‘historical homes.’

Airbnb has recently launched ‘Airbnb Rooms (called Airbnb Guest Rooms in Japan)’ as its strategy to return to its root of sharing a room and communicating with local people. “This is one of them,’ Yasuyuki Tanabe, Airbnb Japan Country Manager said. “We would like travelers from both Japan and foreign countries to enjoy local lifestyles in the historical asset.”

A guest staying the historical home can receive a gift kit containing local experiences and products. Airbnb Japan will invite a group with two guests for free in July 2023 as a campaign.

About 30 residents of six households, including Shinichi Nakajima, a host of the listed home, live in the village. He said, “I felt strong passion of Airbnb to appeal the village and Gokayama area not only to nationwide Japan but also to the world.”

Referring to Osaka Kansai Expo 2025, Mikio Tanaka, Nato City Mayor, said, “We want travelers from the world for the EXPO to visit Nanto City to experience the unchanged nature. Staying in the Airbnb historical home will be a great opportunity for that.”
