JTB and Airbnb Japan have agreed to work together for reuse of abandoned houses to receive travelers in local regions, having a goal of developing the areas in 100 regions nationwide by 2028.
They will support development of new experience-based tourism programs and building of new tourism models optimizing local resources. Also, workshops for local residents to become home-sharing hosts will be organized around 10 times a year to help them launch home-sharing businesses.
In eastern Japan particularly, they will address development of sustainable home-sharing infrastructures with local communities including reuse of abandoned houses.
Airbnb Japan has signed agreements with several local governments, such as Sado City, Niigata, Kushiro City, Hokkaido or Iida City, Nagano for building of home-sharing-centered sustainable communities.
Both JTB and Airbnb Japan signed a comprehensive business partnership in 2018 to support BCP services in case of a disaster and exploit new inbound travel markets.
