The Japan Association for the 2025 World Exposition announced that Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai will be a complete cashless event without accepting cash payment. About 60 payment brands, including credit cards, IC-typed e-money or QR-typed e-money, will be accepted by all shops and pavilions in the venue for smoother payment, shorter-time payment, anti-virus and security.
For visitors who do not have cashless payment services, like students or foreigners, the Association will support them with pre-paid cards that can charge money even outside of the EXPO.
In addition, the Association will introduce its original e-money payment ‘EXPO 2025 Digital Wallet’ by the end of March 2024. The wallet, based on a bank account or a credit card, will be used even before the EXPO opens.
The point reward service to get points by joining a variety of partners’ programs is planned, and member benefits, such as original NFT, exchanges to limited goods or rights to join designated events, will be offered.
The Association plans to make the e-wallet an ordinarily-usable cashless payment service even after the EXPO.
