International conferences in Japan were up 2.5 times in 2023 with more in-person than hybrid for the first time since 2020

Japan National Tourism Organizations (JNTO) announced that the number of international conferences in Japan was up 2.5 times year on yea to 1,376 in 2023, and participants also up 3.1 times to 1,016,000 including 129,000 from foreign countries and regions.

Middle- or large-scale conferences with more than 300 participants were 255, accounting for 18.5% of the total, and international participants for those reached about 88,000, accounting for about 70% of all international participants. 

Compared to 2019, Middle- or large-scale conferences recovered to 54%, and international participants to 67%. 

In-person conferences were 736, accounting for 53% of the total, more than hybrid conferences for the first time since 2020.
