Japan Tourism Agency creates new ‘Travel Etiquette’ and ‘Tourism Pictogram’ as guidances for travelers to promote sustainable tourism

Japan Tourism Agency (JTA) has created new ‘Travel Etiquette’ and ‘Tourism Pictogram’ to raise awareness of tourist etiquette and recommended behavior.

For Travelers, ‘Travel Etiquette’ shows seven manners: ‘Know your destination and mind your manners while there,’ 'Avoid the crowds,’ ‘Travel smart and travel light,’ ‘Respect cultural assets,’ 'Dispose of trash responsibly,’ ‘Buy local’ and ‘Take your time.’

‘Tourism Pictogram’ visualizes 14 prohibited actions and 8 recommended actions in five different languages.

JTA will work with the related parties to promote initiatives such as raising awareness of etiquette on social media, travel information and booking sites, and at tourist destinations, and will regularly update the content based on examples of use.
