Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO) announced that the number of Japanese overseas travelers were 512,200 in 2021, down 83.9% over 2020 or down 97.4% over 2019 (20,080,669).
In December 2021 only, the number was 48,900, up 48% over 2020 or down 97.1% over 2019.
According to OAG, international flights departing from six major airports in Japan (Narita, Haneda, Kansai, Nagoya, Fukuoka and Sapporo) were 2,993 in December 2021, almost the same as a year ago, and available seats were up 6.3% to 734,405 in total.
