Japanese guest nights recovered to a 13% reduction from pre-COVID-19 in November 2021

Japan Tourism Agency reported that the total number of guest nights in November 2021 was down 3.8% year on year to 35.3 million, considerably improving from 21.4% reduction in October 2021. The monthly result  recovered to a 13% reduction from the same month two years ago.

The occupation rate was 46%, 0.7 higher points than a year ago than November 2020 or 20 lower points than November 2019. All of the accommodation types saw higher occupancy rates than October 2021:  34.1%for ryokan (7.8 lower points than two years ago), 41.2% for resort hotel (16.3 lower points than two years ago), 56.9% for budget hotel (23 lower points than two years ago) and 50.6% for city hotel (31.9 lower points than two years ago). The occupancy rate for budget hotel and city hotel was higher than even a year ago.

By prefecture, growths in guest nights in comparison with a year ago were seen Toyama with 5% up, Yamanashi with 3.6% up, Aichi with 11.3% up, Osaka with 2.3% up and Tokushima with 5.6% up. The highest occupancy rate was discovered in Shimane with 58.6%, while the lowest in Kyoto with 29.9%.
