Tourism DX on an app for rent-a-bicycle users is tested in Shimanami area, a popular destination in Japan for cyclists

Shimanami Japan, a local DMO, has started tourism DX demonstration on its app for rent-a-bicycle users in Shimanami area, a popular destination for cyclists in Japan, in order to increase local spending by them. The trial is carried out with NAVITIME Japan, NTT Communications, Iyo Bank and Iyogin Regional Economy Research Center.

Voice recommendations on tourist spots or dining opportunities on the routes are provided on the app, based on real-time cycling situations. Taking advantage of the route search technology of NAVITIME Japan, a navigation app provider, a travel itinerary function will be developed.

They aim to improve customer services and reduce workloads through online booking and cashless payment.

In addition, they will develop a dashboard to grasp user demography and activity trends, which is expected to contribute to data-based regional management.

Although about 150,000 bicycles were rented in Shimanami area in 2019, user data were not acquired, and only paper-based bookings were accepted.
