Trip.com received more travel bookings from China to Japan in Q1 of 2024 than 2019, increasing travelers to local areas

Trip.com revealed that the OTA received more travel bookings from mainland China to Japan in the first quarter of 2024 than the same period of 2019. although the number of Chinese travelers to Japan in March 2024 was down 34.6% compared to the same month of 2019, according to Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO). 

Also, the number of visa issues for Japan to Chinese travelers increased by 118% in total in the period from Q3 of 2023 to Q1 of 2024 compared to the same period before the pandemic, according to the group’s visa division. In detail, the growth rates were 70% for one-time visa, 205% for three-years-valid visa and 572% for five-years-valid visa. 

Transactions of accommodation sales in Japan in a livestream event on its app reached about 2.2 billion yen. 

Trip.com has increased bookings in local areas of Japan for the first four months of 2024, particularly Wakayama with 488% up year on year (up 89% over 2019), Kumamoto with 583% up (up 296% over 2019) or Shizuoka with 431% up (up 204% over 2019).
